The Department of Information (DOI) aims to provide the public with up-to-date, comprehensive and meaningful information on Government policies, services and activities as well as on matters of public interest. It consists of the following units:

• The Communication Centre operates the Freephone 153 information service for the public and provides press releases, photographs and other material to the press.
  

• The Publishing Unit is responsible for publications such as the Government Gazette and Pajjizna. It also provides news digests to Maltese diplomatic missions abroad and manages the DOI website.
  

• The Sales Office holds and sells copies of a vast collection of photographic material as well as all official Government publications.
  

• The Department's Photographic Service provides extensive coverage of Government activities and national events. Digital photography is now used to enable faster transmission of pictures to the media.
