| The Information Management Unit (IMU) is headed by the
Chief Information Officer,
who reports to the Permanent Secretary, OPM. The IMU is responsible for
managing all projects within OPM that are related to information systems and
information technology. The IMU provides advice on IT spending and IT contracts and is responsible for developing
a strategic direction for the exploitation of IT in line with the goals
and mission of the Office of the Prime Minister.
The IMU is responsible for the dissemination and enforcement within OPM
of all Government ICT policies, standards and procedures.
Furthermore, the IMU is responsible for information security within OPM
and the Chief Information Officer is also designated as the Information Security
Officer.

Mr Robert Debono
Chief
Information Officer
Robert Debono joined the Malta Public
Service in 2000 and served at the European Union
Directorate within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
In 2001, he was engaged as a Programme Manager by
the newly set up Regional Policy Directorate at the
Office of the Prime Minister. In 2003 he was
appointed Systems Administrator of the Structural
Funds Management Database. He was then engaged
to serve as Information Management Officer in 2004.
Mr. Debono was appointed Chief Information Officer
in October 2007.
