Registration in terms of the Press Act


What this service is for

The Press Act requires that people who fulfil the role of editor or publisher of a newspaper, or editor of a broadcasting service, should register themselves with the Director of Information in his capacity as Press Registrar.

Who is eligible

To serve as editor you must be 18 years of age or over. You also have to be a resident in Malta. If you reside in Malta but you are not a Maltese citizen you can still register as an editor if you have a work permit issued on the basis of media editorship. The publisher of a newspaper can be either a person or a firm or association.

How to obtain the service

You can apply for this service using 1 of 3 prescribed forms (print editor, TV/radio editor or publisher) which can be obtained from the Department of Information.

Fees and charges

Registration is free of charge.

Opening hours

Opening hours for the public:
Monday to Friday 0815 to 1515 from 1 October to 15 June
Monday to Friday 0800 to 1230 from 16 June to 30 September.
