The Prime Minister of Malta is head of government with
responsibility for the overall direction of the country’s
administration. This is expressed in the Constitution through
those provisions whereby the President is required to act on
the Prime Minister’s advice in appointing ministers and
assigning them portfolio responsibilities, and whereby the
Prime Minister is given the power to direct the business of
the Cabinet.
In addition to being head of government, the Prime Minister
is also a minister in his own right with portfolio
responsibilities of his own. Click here for more
information about the Prime Minister’s portfolio
responsibilities.
The Prime Minister’s Private Secretariat provides full
logistical assistance and support to the Prime Minister in
fulfilling his onerous duties. The Secretariat also handles
all aspects of the Prime Minister’s public relations and
customer service.
